The archive of the Belgian playwright, poet, Professor of Belgian Studies (at the University of London) Émile Leon Cammaerts (1878 - 1953) are held in Senate House Library at the University of London. The collection comprises 60 boxes and the date range of the material extends between 1870 -1964.
The papers were deposited in 1969 on permanent loan by Mrs Joan Lindley the daughter of Professor Cammaerts. The copyright transferred to Senate House Library and the ownership remains with the family.
The collection contains correspondence, books and personal papers relating to Émile Cammaerts, poet, royalist, Belgian patriot and Professor of Belgian Studies and Institutions in the University of London. The papers held at Senate House Library relate to Belgian and British affairs, but also art, literature, theatre, politics, the press, religion and the two world wars.
Access conditions: Access to this collection is unrestricted for the purpose of private study and personal research within the supervised environment an restrictions of the Library’s Paleography Room. Access to individual items may be restricted under the Data Protection Act or the Freedom of Information Act.
Copies may be made, subject to the condition of the original.
