\\ Australians embarking at Mudros, 24 April 1915 (ICS84/D/6/613)

Shows Australians on board with packs and guns. Mudros is a small Greek port on the Mediterranean island of Lemnos, some 50 km from the Dardanelle Straits. The harbour was broad enough to sustain British and French warships, although it was recognised at an early stage that there was a potentially troublesome absence of suitable military facilities. The port was placed under British control as a base for the campaign.
